From Sept. 28 to Oct. 8, Ragusa Ibla is transformed into an open-air laboratory with the second edition of “Ragusa Behind the Curtain.”
This biennial festival, conceived by Vicky DiQuattro, celebrates the crafts of theater and art in a magical and evocative atmosphere, illuminated by the verses of Italo Calvino on the centennial of his birth.
This year, the streets of Ragusa Ibla will be adorned with verses by Italo Calvino in an installation entitled “The Secret City. Artist Lights,” designed by Paolo Amico and curated by Costanza Casali. The phrases from “The Invisible Cities” will illuminate the heart of the Baroque district with a fascinating lighting effect, creating a unique and sustainable visual experience.
“Ragusa Behind the Curtain” offers an unmissable program dotted with talks, workshops, meetings and performances, as well as guided tours, exhibitions and tastings. The festival is promoted by the “Donnafugata 2000” association and funded by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, with the support of the Sicily Region’s Department of Tourism and Entertainment, the Libero Consorzio Comunale di Ragusa, the City of Ragusa and the SIAE.
The festival opens on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. with speeches by prominent figures such as the regional councillor for Tourism and Entertainment, Elvira Amata, the mayor of Ragusa, Peppe Cassì, and many others. The event will be moderated by journalist Salvatore Cannata and will fully involve the city, with ample space dedicated to secondary school students.
Thanks to the connections created with associations such as Ragusa Is, A.O.G. Foto Trekking, Novum 1693, St. George’s Cathedral and many others, the festival stands as a cultural ferment and engine for joint cultural actions. Fully involved is also the world of schools, with specific focuses and meetings with artists.
The festival is supported by various private sponsors such as Cappadona Group, Randstad, Regran, ST Sergio Tumino, and many others, who helped make this edition possible.
